- Where aluminum surfaces may come in
contact with metals other than stainless steel, zinc, cadmium or small areas
of white bronze, keep aluminum surfaces from direct contact with
incompatible metals.
This is achieved by providing suitable protection coatings of paint, by
using good quality caulking material between the surfaces, by using
non-absorptive plastic or elastomeric tapes or gaskets, or in the case of
steel, using a sufficiently thick galvanized coating. Coatings containing
lead pigmentation must be avoided.
- Steel anchors and other types of
unexposed clips may be zinc or cadmium plated or finished with other
suitable protective coating after fabrication.
- Dissimilar metals should be painted
if used in locations where drainage from them passes over aluminum.
- Paint aluminum surfaces in contact
with lime mortar, concrete or other masonry materials with alkali resistant
coatings.
